Start With a Winning Topic

Winning a science fair award is a fantastic accomplishment, but it requires more than just a complicated project. The first thing you have to do is select a winning topic. Choosing a topic that will win an award starts with a great idea. This doesn’t mean you have to come up with a topic that has never been studied before.

There are many science fair project ideas to choose from, and sometimes you can even get inspiration from what other students have already done. It’s important, though, to only use other science fair projects as inspiration and not copy them entirely. Winning a science fair competition requires a project you can truly call your own.

Start your science fair project with a bright idea!

Choose the Best Topic For You

Choose The Best Topic For You

Science fair project ideas always start with a question. What topics interest you the most? What have you always wondered about that topic? Once your question has been decided, everything else flows from there. In fact, coming up with ideas isn’t a matter of brilliance, either. It’s really a matter of practice. Coming up with one idea and trying to make it work might cause problems once you’re into the project. That’s why it’s important to come up with lots of ideas.

If Your Science Project is Limited to a Specific Subject

If your science project is limited to a specific subject, the best thing to do is think about what interests you within that topic. Go through everything that crosses your mind relating to that topic that sounds like something you’d like to explore. Maybe you can give yourself like 15 minutes to spend brainstorming, and don’t stop thinking and writing until the time is up. Start with broad topics and then narrow them down to specific ideas, but be sure to just write them all down!

By the way, getting a free copy of Easy Steps to Award-Winning Science Fair Projects will help you through your own project.

Whatever science fair topic you select, it’s best that you have an interest in it and will enjoy doing it. After all, it’s not just about getting a good grade or winning an award, it’s also about having fun while learning!

Once Your Ideas Are Written Down

Once you have your science fair project ideas written down, you need to narrow them down into a workable project. Science is based on the scientific method, so it’s important to come up with a testable hypothesis for a good project. You will need to find a question about your topic that you can test to find an answer. While reviewing your idea list, write down questions that you can ask and can test for each topic.

For example, maybe you want to do a project on magnets and electrical currents. A question you could start with would be: What has more electrical conductivity, solids or liquids? From there, you may even come up with more questions by making a compass and testing how far the compass needle moves and the current flow in the circuit.

Choose Something You Like

There are many great ideas that you can research and do for a science project. Whatever science fair topic you select, it’s best that you have an interest in it and will enjoy doing it. Just remember to plan early and prepare thoroughly. After all, it’s not just about getting a good grade or winning an award, it’s also about having fun while learning!

I think what is important to note is that a winning project is created when you choose a topic that you are not just interested in but passionate about. Why? Because when you heart and soul is into a subject it shows in your work. The Judge will hear it in your voice, see your enthusiasm in your eyes and your energy is contagious!
